A Journey of Compassion and Connection
In the quiet corners of healthcare, where life's final chapter unfolds, a vibrant community is growing. HospicePass, a newsletter and support network for end-of-life care professionals, is opening its arms wider each day to welcome those dedicated to making life's twilight as comfortable and exceptional as possible.
Our community is like a patchwork quilt, each member bringing their unique experiences and expertise to create something beautiful and comforting. From nurses and doctors to social workers and grief counselors, we're united by a common purpose: to improve the end-of-life journey for patients and their families.
Every day, we reach out to 20 new healthcare professionals, inviting them to join our circle of support. We share stories, exchange knowledge, and offer a shoulder to lean on in this emotionally demanding field. Our 1000+ members find solace in knowing they're not alone in their challenges and triumphs.
But our community extends beyond just healthcare providers. We actively seek partnerships with companies that provide essential services and products for end-of-life care. These collaborations enrich our network, bringing innovative solutions and resources to our members and, ultimately, to the patients they serve.
If you're passionate about end-of-life care, we want you to be part of our story. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting your journey in this field, HospicePass welcomes you. Here, you'll find a supportive family of like-minded individuals, all working towards the same goal: to bring dignity, comfort, and peace to life's final moments.
Join us at HospicePass, where every new connection strengthens our community and enhances the care we provide. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those facing their final days – and in the lives of those who care for them.
Welcome One. Welcome All.
In addition to the new subscribers being added each day, we have compiled partnerships with over 50 companies, associations, and organizations.
Why? What’s the purpose of all this?
We have a responsibility to educate the general population as to what hospice means.
Through our community, we have access to data and information. The information we receive through the surveys below will make all of us better. So don’t be shy - no one is tracking you directly. Answer the questions to help the community.
Let’s start with the groups that we need to target during this re-education process.
Physicians:
Our main source of referrals. In speaking with a geriatric physician this past week his comment had us take a step back. He stated, “We discuss hospice care with our patients all of the time. The challenge is by the time a patient chooses hospice care, it’s too late and they never have the opportunity to take full advantage of what hospice can provide.”
Frightening and unfortunate at the same time. Today’s physician is overwhelmed with the numbers. How many patients can they see a day? How much can be billed to insurance? What medication can be prescribed? What’s the path of least resistance for today’s aches and pains? Physicians do everything they can, but the forces of “medicine is a business” have their hands tied.
In turn, we need to become the trusted source for physicians. We need to become the ones who are introduced to their patients earlier to have meaningful conversations about hospice and everything it has to offer. Miracles can happen when people have the opportunity to take advantage of the six months of care offered.

Executives of Senior Care Facilities, Assisted Living, Nursing Homes, SNF’s, and more:
We see you posting your pics on LinkedIn. Bringing lunch, setting up coffee bars, ice cream and shaved ice. Bingo and casino days, music therapy - hosting events for the pros taking care of the community members, as well as, taking care of the people residing at these locations.
The question is - what kind of hospice education are we providing? Is the goal of these events to increase brand awareness, so that when there is a need, a referral, you’re the one they call first? Or are we providing an education as to what the possibilities may be regarding hospice care when that time arises?
Let’s be honest - it’s not a great conversation - no one wants to talk about their ultimate demise and how they will be cared for. However, this is the perfect opportunity to start planting those seeds. Discussions that include, “Here are the options that will be available when those decisions need to be made.” This is the education process that makes us more valuable to have as a hospice agency partner.

General Population: Baby Boomers and Generation X
Ah, caramba and holy moly, What to do. What to say. How to act.
Two completely different groups of people. Different ideologies. The boomers, our silver tsunami, are the ones who need to understand the options available when that time comes. GenX will be the ones helping make these decisions and may have a different take on life and the way one should live out their last journey.
Unfortunately, based on the conversations we are having with the HospicePass community, the education process begins when the one choosing hospice, as an option, is referred by their physician.
The general population gets a folder, with a sheet of paper in it, that may have a few hospice options. There’s a phone call(s), quickly set up meetings, and a decision is made based on who reaches out first. There are a hundred other decisions that need to be made, within a few hours, and the stress and anxiety levels for all involved are shooting through the roof. Throw in opposing personal philosophies on how a person should spend the balance of their life, knowing that their ultimate demise is forthcoming, and well - chaos and crazy ensue.
This is not meant to be a critique of the process. That’s not the intent. We’re all doing our best to encourage people to begin these conversations earlier. They’re not easy and what takes place today is the “nature of the beast.” However, there is a way to open the doors and normalize hospice care as a valuable and exceptional option for those who may be interested.

Caregivers: Family Members and Healthcare Professionals
Caregiving is not easy.
It’s not easy for the family members who step up to care for their loved ones. A life-changing task that they were not prepared for or ever asked to do.
It’s not easy for the healthcare professionals who have chosen this line of work. Day in, and day out they’re doing everything in their power to make a person comfortable. They deal with imminent death every single day and are expected to move on.
Mental health, support, a shoulder to cry on, a place to let it all go, someone to listen - it’s all needed, it’s more than relevant and there’s not enough of it. For the last two questions:
What type of mental health support do you offer your team of healthcare professionals? |
This is only the beginning…..
