It’s Called a Paradigm Shift

A paradigm shift is when people completely change how they think about or do something - kind of like switching from one way of seeing the world to a totally different way.

1. Think about how people used to believe the Earth was flat. When scientists proved it was actually round, everyone had to change their whole way of thinking about the world. That was a paradigm shift!

2. Imagine when cars were first invented. Before that, everyone used horses to get around. Switching from horses to cars changed everything about how people traveled and lived - that's another paradigm shift.

3. Here's one you might we can all relate to: When schools switched from in-person classes to online learning during COVID, that was like a paradigm shift in education. It was a completely new way of thinking about how to learn and teach.

Here are some major paradigm shifts in healthcare business:

  1. Telemedicine Revolution

  • Old way: Patients had to physically visit doctors' offices for most medical consultations

  • New way: Virtual visits became normal, allowing patients to consult doctors from home through video calls

  1. Electronic Health Records (EHR)

  • Old way: Paper medical charts and files stored in cabinets, making it hard to share information between doctors

  • New way: Digital records that can be instantly accessed and shared between healthcare providers

  1. Preventive Care & Wellness Focus

  • Old way: Healthcare focused mainly on treating illnesses after they occurred

  • New way: Emphasis on preventing diseases through lifestyle changes, regular screenings, and proactive health monitoring

The Shift in Hospice Care:

The basics of hospice care:

  • Provides compassionate end-of-life care for patients with terminal illnesses who typically have 6 months or less to live.

  • Focus on making patients comfortable rather than curing their illness, managing pain and symptoms while supporting their emotional and spiritual needs.

  • Care is delivered wherever the patient calls home, whether that's their house, a nursing facility, or a hospice facility.

  • A team including nurses, doctors, social workers, and chaplains work together to support both the patient and their family through this difficult journey, ensuring dignity and quality of life until the end.

You have 70+ Days, on average, to make someone’s end-of-life journey exceptional.

Of course, the 70-day average does not apply to everyone choosing hospice.

However, taking an extra moment to understand the last wishes a person may desire can have a tremendous impact during their last days, weeks, or months on this planet.

Through our vast network of hospices across the country, this is what we are hearing, reading, and seeing:

Sonnie Linebarger, CEO of Cadre Hospice is making the following her mission:

We're done playing it safe. We're building something bold. Something different.

A company that will elevate both the end-of-life experience AND the team member experience.

We're not afraid to disrupt the normalized mediocre hospice delivery that almost everyone seems to accept nowadays.

This is a movement to redefine what end-of-life care can AND should be.

Jaclyn Sanders, announced she is now Chief Growth Officer of All Things Hospice. The most magical and inspiring portion of this story is what All Things Hospice provides:

  • Reminiscence Therapy

  • Pet Therapy

  • Life Review and Legacy Projects

  • Music & Sensory Stimulation

  • Family Connections via Technology

  • Virtual Reality Experiences, and more.

Simple services that can and will make a difference.

Making certain the people we care for are comfortable is critical,

however, a 45-minute VR experience,

introducing them to services that connect them to their grandchildren via video after they pass.

and connecting them with family members who may live out of state through their televisions -

That’s what is important and makes end-of-life exceptional.

Gary Patmor, an 89-year-old patient at Suncrest Hospice in Riverside, wished he could go skydiving again, so his care team made it happen! A skydiving hospice patient - HELL YA!!!!
